About Us

Introduction

NYCLIX is a groundbreaking initiative bringing together some of the most renowned medical institutions in the world and an extensive network of healthcare providers and practitioners that collectively serve a population of 2.8 million people from the New York metropolitan area and beyond.

NYCLIX is a privacy-protected system for sharing medical records among physicians, hospitals and other health care providers in efficient and meaningful ways. With NYCLIX, authorized users can quickly and easily see a more complete medical picture of a patient in their care because they will have access to that patient’s electronic files from all the NYCLIX member facilities that person has visited. By combining the latest Internet capabilities with the state-of-the-art privacy and security protections, NYCLIX will improve coordination of care, healthcare quality, and policy development, while reducing costs, medical errors and healthcare disparities.

NYCLIX and the growing eHealth network

NYCLIX is part of the developing statewide eHealth network called SHIN-NY (Statewide Health Information Network for New York). NYCLIX is also a Regional Health Information Organization (RHIO) for the New York metropolitan area that maintains a network linking the medical records of 13 healthcare providers. Together with the state’s other RHIOs, it will eventually be a part of statewide and nationwide health information networks that will make individuals’ medical records available to their caregivers anywhere in the country, and provide rapid tracking of vital health and wellness trends.

The development of the statewide network is managed by the New York eHealth Collaborative, a public-private partnership started with leadership and support from the New York State Department of Health, that serves as a focal point for health care stakeholders on state health IT policy priorities, and for state and regional health IT implementation efforts
